Describe your birth experience. What have your parents told you about the circumstances of your birth?

My birth experience was interesting to me. My parents told me that, they never expected me and I wasn't planned so they didn't know my mom was pregnant with me until far later on almost I think 6 months in she started feeling weird. She went to go check what it was to find out she was pregnant. They told her that I had a major risk of coming out with down syndromes and much more worse defects;they gave my parents the decision of aborting me. My dad refused to abort me. When the time came to come out,it was 11 pm and my mom lasted almost 3 hours dealing with pushing me out. Finally, I came out normally and turns out the doctors were wrong too; I did not come out with any down syndrome or any bad defects!!

How do you find time to enjoy your day, even when you have a lot going on?

Prompt Response:  I find time to enjoy my day by either leaving some unimportant things for the next day or taking a break from them to leave some time for myself. I don't like to feel overwhelmed so I always make sure I can do things that I like while i'm busy.  Summary: 3 things I do is take a break, eat then go back to what I was doing, or play video games then go do the stuff I was doing. Those often make me feel less overwhelmed and get me to have time for myself. I enjoy doing all those things to give myself a break.  Reflection:  When time gets too busy to give yourself the time you need, we all need to take a break and remember to feed our bodies or help entertain ourselves the way we like.

Describe a time when someone’s words had a lasting impact on you.

Prompt Response:  A time when someones words had a long lasting impact on me is when I was getting lectured for something I did and they told me "Everyone here cares and loves you Neli, I might not know how to show you it myself but Im trying" and they started crying. This made my heart hurt and feel bad.  Summary: I then, realized maybe I was thinking in the wrong perspective and being selfish. I wasn't thinking of the people around me and just being selfish. Those words had a humongous impact on me because it made me realize other ways of looking at the situation and made me realize what I did wasn't the best choice.  Reflection: Words like that can really help you out when you most need it. Words really do have a long-lasting effect.

Imagine you are learning about Hispanic/Latino heritage for the very first time. What would you be curious to know about the traditions, foods, music, or celebrations?

Prompt Response:  If I was experiencing and learning about Hispanic/Latino heritage for the first time. I would be curious about how they express their culture thought the way they dress. The way they dress is typically very colorful and I always find it fascinating. I would also be curious about how they create such loud but creative rhythms in their music.  Summary: The Hispanic/Latino culture is something fascinating and the music, food, traditions and customs is always a great way to identify what cultures people are from and I love how colorful and creative they are with it. Reflection:  The Hispanic/Latino culture is very creative in many ways and the way they express and show it is always fascinating.

About a time when you were judged unfairly.

Prompt Response:  One time I was treated unfairly was when I was in elementary and the teacher kept treating me a certain unfair way because I was Hispanic so she assumed I could only speak Spanish and would say some rude things thinking I didn't understand. I found that very disrespectful and unfair how I sometimes couldn't do things others did because she didn't think I knew what to do.  Summary: That treatment was unfair especially when she knew I did speak English and even spoke fluently to her many times. Teachers and people in general should stop assuming things until they talk to people personally because its rude to assume people are automatically dumb just for not understanding the language you know,  Reflection: Assuming is not good for anyone and shouldn't reflect on the way you treat someone or make them feel dumb for not "understanding" what you know.
